June 13 – the day of liberation of the city of Mariupol by the Ukrainian troops from the armed forces of the Russian Federation

On May 9, 2014, Russian special services and the armed forces attempted to capture Mariupol. Their plans included capturing the city police department, capturing Ukrainian officers, seizing weapons, then capturing a military unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, and then taking control of the entire city of Mariupol.

But, fortunately, these plans never materialized.

Officers of the city police department resolutely resisted and did not allow the building to be seized.

Then came reinforcements: soldiers of the 20th Battalion of the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 1st Battalion 72 OMBr them. Black Cossacks, NMU of the National Guard of Ukraine “Omega” and volunteers of “Azov”.

A strong rebuff by the defenders of Ukraine did not allow the enemy to capture the city of Mariupol and turn a large industrial center and a strategically important port into a springboard for the offensive of Russian troops in the direction of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol.

The liberation of Mariupol was an example of a brilliant military operation, decisive coordinated actions by police units, the National Guard of Ukraine and volunteer battalions.

It showed that Ukraine can give a powerful military response to the enemy.

Mariupol is Ukraine!

Ukraine will win!

Glory to the defenders of Ukraine!

Eternal memory and glory to the dead!
